Fall is here and it’s the perfect time to for a cleanup! We can’t help but cringe when we hear this word. Yet, it is something that needs to be done at least once a year. However, it’s a good idea to do a cleanup (or cleanout) at the start of every season. There are several reasons why a fall cleanup is needed, such as disposing of yard debris and hazardous and non-hazardous waste.
Summer can do a number on your yard, including gardens and trees. If the summer heat damaged your grass prompting the need for reseeding, then you will need to core-aerate and add compost to improve soil fertility. Pruning trees and bushes are another task for the yard. Summer storms are also hard on trees and can cause quite a bit of damage (i.e., fallen limbs). Let’s not forget about your deck. Are there cracked boards? Is your outdoor furniture on its last legs? To dispose safely and properly of yard debris, old deck boards, or old outdoor furniture, putting them at the curb is not the solution. It’s much easier and safer to get a dumpster to handle all of it. Plus, you can use the dumpster for the items you are going to get rid of in your home.
Cleaning out your home at the start of fall will get you in the mindset for an organized home and to get ready for the holidays. When was the last time you cleaned out the basement, attic or garage? It’s easy to use them to store things that really need to be discarded, such as old magazines, clothes, and toys. It’s also good to take inventory of your holiday decorations. Are they cracked, faded, or broken? They too need to go into the dumpster. Also, what about the hazardous and non-hazardous waste in the garage?
Hazardous waste includes pesticides, paint and stains that are spent or expired, whereas non-hazardous waste are items that aren’t toxic and are hard to recycle (e.g., appliances and propane tanks). While you are separating the hazardous from the non-hazardous, you’ll find yourself getting rid of items that are cluttering up your home.
Most people say they don’t need a dumpster when cleaning up their yard and/or cleaning out their home – until they see just how much junk and debris they need to dispose. At
